WASHINGTON - Joran Van der Sloot, the main suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway who just confessed to murdering another woman from Peru, may have paid for his trip to the South American country by extorting money from Holloway's family.

Prosecutors in Alabama say he wanted a quarter million dollars in exchange for telling them what happened to Natalee and the location of the body.

He was wired 15-thousand dollars into a Dutch bank account, and four days later arrived in Peru.

Authorities say Van der Sloot faces criminal charges in Holloway's home state of Alabama for the alleged extortion plot.

If convicted of killing Stephany Flores, he could get up to 35 years in prison.

Joran Van der Sloot was scheduled to head with police to the crime scene in Peru for a re-enactment of the death of Stephany Flores.

According to "La Republica" newspaper, Van der Sloot told officials he killed Flores in a rage, after discovering she used his lap top without permission and learned he was involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

Police say the case will be turned over to prosecutors, who will present formal charges against Van der Sloot.

Natalee Holloway's mother was at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment in DC June 8 to launch a resource center to help families of missing persons.

Criminal defense attorney, Chris Leibig and Forensic Psychiatrist, Lise Van Susteren joined FOX 5 morning news with more on the developing story.
